When we imagine the future...

When we imagine the future, we do so through the lenses of the present and the past, because what we think and feel is shaped by the accumulation of our experiences.  

Visionaries see the future through the eyes of the future.  

And how can that be?! 
Want a practical example?  

Then I’ll give you two.  

When I was a child, the Post Office was at its peak, always expanding, discovering, and opening new routes of communication between people from the most distant corners.  

I remember when I received my first letter. 
Woooow! What a thrill!  

Opening a letter was something that brought a feeling hard to explain. 
It was a sense of magical connection.  

Today, I receive dozens of letters daily — emails!!! 

When emails appeared, I loved them. 
No more waiting days to get answers and news. 
The connection between people became so intense, with text, video, and audio in real time, that it became trivial.  

Now, I receive emails as part of my professional routine, and if I hadn’t stopped for a moment to think about it, I wouldn’t even remember the euphoria of receiving a letter.  

That first example goes from the past to the present. 
Let’s take advantage of it and use it as an analogy from the present to the future.  

AI had in its first wave the intelligent bots.  

You no longer need a human to talk to, or to make the effort to research. It does that in seconds for you. Ooohhhh!  

In the second wave, AI Agents arrive. 
What are they?  

Imagine an AI Agent as a piece of a human specialized in something, and logically, like any being that calls itself human, also capable of making decisions dynamically as problems arise.  

The future shines with the possibility that we’ll be able to buy agents for the most varied tasks — for example, an agent as a math teacher, or whatever else, not only able to teach but also able to interact and adapt to the student with supra-human efficiency.  

I know!! 
Your reaction was fear and rejection.  

Maybe you thought: how could a teacher replace the human interaction so necessary for learning??  

So let’s rethink this future, not with the eyes of the present/past, but looking at the future with the eyes of the future.  

You’ve surely noticed that cell phones and social networks have completely changed human behavior, especially among the youngest who were born with access to such devices.  

It’s not uncommon to see a group of people, each on their own phone.  

Seeing this with the eyes of the past, it’s unimaginable, absurd! 
With the eyes of the present, it becomes trivial, part of everyday life that you probably take part in.  

The cell phone has become so trivialized that I’ve heard parents say their two- or three-year-old children already show interest or desire to play with a phone.  

If we look at AI agents with the eyes of the future, we can foresee that the children of tomorrow will be so “robotized” by interaction with machines and devices that they will naturally accept a non-human teacher manifesting in the environment most familiar to them: their smartphones and other devices.  

So an AI Agent teacher teaching little students through the channels familiar to them will be as common as a social gathering where everyone is connected to their own world, where being together has such a small relative meaning as will the need to learn through interaction with another human.  

If you felt distressed, or “cried inside,” then you’re still seeing the future with the eyes of the past/present.  

It’s wiser to live in the present with eyes and mind toward the future. 
The feeling changes and the anxiety disappears because you’ll truly be keeping pace with your time.

Quando imaginamos o futuro, o fazemos pelas lentes do presente e do passado, porque o que pensamos e sentimos é pautado pelo acúmulo de nossas experiências.

Visionários veem o futuro pelos olhos do futuro.

E como pode ser isso?!

Então vou dar dois.

Quando eu era criança, os Correios estavam no auge, sempre ampliando, descobrindo e abrindo novas rotas de comunicação entre pessoas dos mais afastados rincões.

Eu me lembro quando recebi a minha primeira carta.
Uauuuu! Que emoção!

Abrir uma carta era algo que trazia uma emoção difícil de explicar.
Era um sentimento de conexão mágica.

Hoje, eu recebo dezenas de cartas diariamente — os e-mails!!!

Quando os e-mails apareceram, eu os amei.
Não mais esperar por dias para obter respostas e notícias.

A conexão entre pessoas tornou-se tão intensa, com texto, vídeo e áudio em tempo real que ficou banalizada.

Hoje, recebo e-mails como parte da minha rotina profissional, e se eu não tivesse parado um tempinho para pensar nisso, nem lembraria da euforia de receber uma carta.

Esse primeiro exemplo vem do passado para o presente.
Vamos aproveitar e usar isso para uma analogia do presente para o futuro.

A IA teve em sua primeira onda os bots inteligentes.
Você já não precisa mais de um ser humano para conversar, ou do seu esforço para pesquisar. Ela faz isso em poucos segundos para você. Ooohhhh!

Na segunda onda, chegam os Agentes de IA.
O que eles são?

Imagine um Agente de IA como um pedaço de ser humano especializado em alguma coisa, e logicamente, como todo ser que se diz humano, também capaz de tomar decisões dinamicamente à medida que os problemas surgem.

 O futuro espelha com a possibilidade de que poderemos compras agentes para as mais variadas tarefas, por exemplo, um agente para um professor de matemática, ou seja lá o que for, não só capaz de ensinar, mas também capaz de interagir e se adaptar ao aluno com uma eficiência supra-humana.

Já sei!!
A sua reação foi de medo e rejeição.
Talvez deva ter pensado como um professor poderá substituir a interação humana tão necessária ao aprendizado??

Então vamos repensar esse futuro, não com os olhos do presente/passado, mas olhar o futuro com os olhos do futuro.

Você certamente já percebeu que o celular e as redes sociais mudaram completamente o comportamento humano, principalmente dos mais jovens que já nasceram com acesso a tais equipamentos.
Não é incomum você ver um grupo de pessoas, mas cada um no seu celular.

Vendo isso com os olhos do passado, é algo inimaginável, absurdo!
Com os olhos do presente torna-se banal, algo do dia-a-dia de que você provavelmente participa.

O celular já banalizou tanto, que já tive a oportunidade de receber notícias de pais de crianças que aproximando-se de seus dois a três anos de idade se interessam ou manifestam desejo para brincar com o celular.

Se olharmos os agentes de IA com os olhos de futuro, poderemos antever que as crianças do futuro estarão tão "robotizadas" pela interação com máquinas e equipamentos que naturalmente aceitarão um professor não humano que se manifesta no ambiente mais familiar que elas terão: seus smartphones e outros dispositivos.

Então um “Agente de IA” professor ensinando seus aluninhos através dos canais que lhes são familiares será algo tão comum como uma reunião social em que cada um está conectado no seu próprio mundo, onde estar junto tem um significado relativo tão pequeno quanto será a necessidade de aprender através da interação com outro humano.

Se você se afligiu, ou “chorou por dentro”, então você continua vendo o futuro com os olhos do passado/presente.

É mais sensato viver no presente com os olhos e a mente para o futuro.
O sentimento muda e a ansiedade desaparece porque você estará realmente acompanhando seu tempo.
